1716 LORD NITHSDALE ESCAPE QUEENS HOUSE
Lord Nithsdale had been imprisoned in the Queens House due to his involvement in
the Jacobite Rising and was sentenced to death. However he managed to escape with
the help of his wife and two of her friends by wearing womens clothing that they had
smuggled into the Tower. He was able to sneak out undetected and the couple then
fled to Rome, where they lived for more than thirty years
