ORIGINAL 1930s TRADE - ADVERTISING CARD
    ROMAN GLASS VESSELS
From the Phoenician city of Sidon the art
of glass-blowing spread all over the Roman
Empire even as far as the remote colony
of Britain where remains of what might
well have been workshops and ovens have
been discovered. Roman glass in Britain
    is remarkably well-preserved, its composition
enabling itto resist acids jp the soil. Glass
made of soda, lime, and silica., and the
gradual elimination of excess of soda causes
disintegration of the surface, Vhus producing
the brilliant iridescence often seen in Roman
glass. These vessels are in the British
    Museum.
