THE MUSIC LESSON
(Chelsea Porcelain)
This fine group of a shepherd teaching a
shepherdess to play on the flute is one of
a set in Schreiber collection in the Victoria
and Albert Museum. It is of Chelsea
porcelain of the period about 1765 and is
in excellent preservation. Profuse gilding,
richly brocaded costumes and backgrounds
of foliage and flowers. characterize these
pieces which were at one time thought to
have been made from models by the famous
sculptor Roubiliac. The subject. is taken
from art old engraving Le Mouton Favori.
Another example of this group was recently
sold in London for 3,250 sterling.
