    KING EDWARD III BATTLE OF SLUYS
    The Battle of Sluys, also called the Battle of l'Ecluse, was a sea battle fought on 24 June
    1340 between England and France, in the port of Sluis, on the inlet between West
    Flanders and Zeeland. The English fleet was personally led by Edward III of England and
    the French by the Breton knight Hugues Quieret, Admiral of France, and Nicolas
    B, Constable of France. It was one of the opening conflicts of the Hundred
    Years' War.
